ActivePrint 7.5 Released for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. What’s New?
We’re very excited to announce the release of ActivePrint 7.5 for your iOS devices! This latest version has only been on the AppStore for a couple of weeks, and it’s already been a great success. Here are some of the new features:
- Support for printing documents and files from your Box.net Cloud Account. Now you can choose Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, PowerPoint Presentations, PDF Files, and more in your Box.net account to be printed. Sign up for a free Box.net account at http://www.box.net.
- Full iOS 4 Support. Many of you have heard about the new iPhone 4 coming out. Some may have even done pre-orders to get one to replace your current iPhone. Whenever you decide to upgrade, know that ActivePrint is completely compatible with iOS 4. And we’ve also added support for multitasking so that you can send your documents to be printed and send it to the background when sending particularly large files to be printed. So no need to wait for the document to finish being sent to the printer if you have an iOS 4 device that supports multitasking.
- Progress bar for when you’re sending print jobs. Another great feature when you’re sending large files to be printed. Now you can watch the file go to your printer as its happening.
- New Welcome screen. This was a design change that was recommended by one of the increasingly active ActivePrint Community. Instead of that long welcome message when you first launch ActivePrint on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll see instead a series of large buttons that simply ask “What do you want to print today?” This is to make printing on the go easier and faster for you.
- Two available downloads on the AppStore, a Pro and Lite version. A couple of months ago we added InApp Purchase to ActivePrint to let users try out ActivePrint for free before buying the full version. We remain the only printing solution for the iPhone and the iPad that does this. However, we still got requests for a version that would allow users to download a full license to all of their iOS devices and not have to purchase a new license for each one. So we’ve added ActivePrint Pro which uses the traditional approach where customers buy the app on the AppStore and then download it to each of the devices in their iTunes Account. But we have kept our Lite version that uses a try-before you buy model.
What’s Next with ActivePrint 7.6?
So that’s ActivePrint 7.5. Now to give you glimpse into what is coming with ActivePrint 7.6. Here are some of the features you can expect with the next free update to ActivePrint:
- Support for printing documents from your Google Docs and Dropbox accounts.
- Mac support for the ActivePrint System Server.
- Simplified Cloud Printing.
Updates for ActivePrint System Server
We’ve added some minor updates to the ActivePrint System Server that everyone should go take advantage of. These updates are mostly improved performance compatibility. You can download it at http://www.activeprint.net.

Pocket Watch, LLC. has been working since January on the next generation of printing software for your mobile device. We’ve developed a number of new technologies, some of which have already been released to the public in ActivePrint 6. Now we are finally getting close to the release of ActivePrint 7.
Presently we place to release ActivePrint 7 to the market starting on August 21st! We’ve rebuilt ActivePrint from the ground up to make it more efficient and more versatile and more powerful than ever. Here are some of the highlights.
Speed
We went through every line of code in ActivePrint to see where we could accelerate things. You don’t want to be sitting around waiting for your documents to print. You want them printed out now. So we’ve implemented new protocols to get your documents to your printer as fast as possible.
Compatibility
The number one problem for printing on the mobile device has always been compatibility. Compatibility for document types, printers, and the mobile device itself has always been a problem for other mobile printing solutions. To fix this problem we’ve utilized the Microsoft .Net Framework in the development of ActivePrint 7. What does this mean for you? It means that whether you’re running a PC with Windows XP or Windows Vista, or if you’re using an old dot matrix printer or the latest laser printer, you’re going to be able to print your documents from your mobile device.
This also means that soon you’ll be able to print not just from your Windows Mobile devices, but also other popular platforms. This includes the very popular Apple iPhone and iPod Touch platforms. The bottom line is if you have a mobile device with a document that you want printed, chances are you’ll be able to print it with ActivePrint 7.
Quality User Experience
We’ve implemented entirely new development methods with ActivePrint 7. These methods are centered on two things. First is reliability. When you’re in the field with your mobile device and you need to print the last thing you need is for your technology to break down. You need reliable software to get the job done.
Our second focus is user experience. Computers and mobile devices are supposed to make our lives easier and more efficient. ActivePrint 7 provides this with a newly designed user interface designed to be as easy as possible. So that no matter what your skill level is with mobile devices you’ll be able to jump right in and start printing from your mobile device.
Save Money
Everyone sees the economy having a rough time right now. So now is the time to save money wherever you can. ActivePrint 7 saves you money in two ways. First, with ActivePrint 7 you don’t need special (expensive) printers or other equipment to print from your mobile device. All you need is your mobile device, a Windows PC, and your regular printer. No special network hardware, no need for an IT department. It just prints for you. Install the software to your device and you’re ready to go.
The other way that ActivePrint 7 saves you money is by increasing your productivity. This is especially true for people in business, but it also applies to casual users who may just want to print out articles or photos from their cell phones. Without ActivePrint 7 if you want to print something from your mobile device you have to plug it in to your PC, pick and choose what you want to print, copy those documents to your PC, open each one, and tell the software to print. With ActivePrint 7 all you have to do is tell ActivePrint what you want printed and it takes care of the rest.
